My life has always been shaped by and filled with music, due in no small part to Music for Young Children. My first formal music lessons began over 20 years ago when I myself was a Music for Young Children student in my piano teacher Frances Balodis’ living room in Kanata. I’m sure only Frances could have guessed where MYC would take me! I have been overjoyed to be part of the team of Music for Young Children piano teachers in Kanata since 2006. Because I learned the joy and power of music through MYC, it is a special privilege to share that now with young kids as a Music for Young Children piano teacher.
After growing up with a strong foundation from MYC, I received my Grade 8 Conservatory Certificates in both piano and voice. Being highly involved in my high schools vocal program led me to pursue my desire to share music with others. I studied in Potsdam, New York at the Crane School of Music and received my B.Mus in Vocal Performance (with a minor in Mathematics). There I had the opportunity to learn from fantastic teachers, perform in opera productions, learn and practice choral conducting, and expand my knowledge and experience of music in an environment that encouraged teaching excellence. I have enjoyed bringing all of these experiences together as I teach music and piano lessons in the Music for Young Children program.
I continue to expand my professional musical experience and practice through continued learning as a chorister and alto soloist with Ottawa’s internationally acclaimed Ottawa Bach Choir. Along with regular concert programs in Ottawa, we have performed in fabulous venues in Europe in 2009 (St. Pauls in London, La Madeleine and Notre Dame in Paris, Thomaskirche in Leipzig), Carnegie Hall in NYC in 2011 and again in Europe in 2014 (St Marks in Venice, Thomaskirche in Leipzig, Westerkerk in Amsterdam).

Beginning in the fall 2017, I am studying at Ottawa U in the music department as I pursue a M.Mus in Vocal Performance. I will not be teaching MYC classes for the duration of the program (Fall 2017 – Spring 2019) but hope to see you again soon!
