Sunbeams 1: Beginners aged 5 & 6

Begins a 4 year program: Sunbeams 1, Sunbeams 2, Sunbeams 3, Moonbeams 3.
Sunbeams 1 classes tend to be very busy, loud and a little bit wild, like most 5&6 yr olds! :-) A lot of new material is introduced each week and piano playing skills develop quickly with regular efficient practicing. It’s a very exciting year. The students always chill out a bit in time for Sunbeams 2 and start to focus more consistently in class as the material arrives at an “adult beginner” level. In Sunbeams 3 the work-load and complexity increases so this class will offer some challenges even for the oldest and most diligent students. It’s a good opportunity to teach efficient practice time and patience when things don’t come quickly. Parents need to be very emotionally supportive and encouraging at this stage. Moonbeams 3 is the final year of the program and prepares students for Grade 1 piano exams and first level Theory exams. It is a wonderful year remembering and celebrating the great accomplishments you’ve made as a team through this program!

Sunshine 1: Beginners aged 3 & 4

Begins a 5 year program: Sunshine 1, Sunshine 2, Sunbeams 2, Sunbeams 3, Moonbeams 3.
Sunshine 1 classes tend to be a little quiet as the kids at this age can take several months to warm up to the group environment. In Sunshine 2 the kids are more comfortable and sometimes a bit excitable, allowing for a more engaging lesson. In Sunbeams 2 these kids are socially active but are also learning to focus well as the material becomes more complicated. Sunbeams 3 can be a challenge if kids started young; it’s a great opportunity to teach diligence, efficient practice time, and patience when skills or understanding doesn’t come quickly.
